Last week, my roommates and I were in the crafting mood, which never happens. We wanted to do something quick + easy, but actually nice. When we didn’t have any ideas, we turned to the internet–thank you, Pinterest.
One of my roommates ended up trying this glue-on-a-canvas tutorial, which was a tragic fail. The other, a simple letter cut out. After wandering aimlessly in Michael’s Crafts, I just ended up painting a favorite quote of mine on a canvas–nothing special. However, I came across a cute DIY idea I thought I’d share with you guys.
All you need is:
- Gold or silver spray paint
- Masking tape
First, you spray paint the blank canvas with some metallic spray paint (I’m leaning towards the gold). Then, after letting it dry, you put down masking tape in a pattern of your choice. You can’t go wrong a little herringbone. Next, layer on regular ol’ paint on the exposed parts of the canvas (be careful to avoid letting the paint “leak” underneath the tape). Dry + peel off said-paint and, voila! A real piece of art to hang on your walls.
Or, if all else fails, you can buy one of these lovely pieces by Squirrels and Stripes here.
